Superfinishing, or ceramic polishing of components is ideal for performance engines and Motorsport. The process of isotropic Super-finishing (or ceramic tumbling) reduces friction and vibration and therefore reduces power loss through transmission, for increasing performance of components and durability, along with reduction of temperature.

Key benefits of Superfinishing

The Superfinishing process yields a 'glass like' surface on the critical faces of most engine parts, producing a surface of 0.03 Ra, or better. This reduces contact fatigue, ideal for performance engines and motor racing teams.

Reduced contact fatigue benefits:

  • produces smoother surfaces and therefore less friction, requiring less power to run and reducing power loss through transmission

  • allows engines to run cooler, faster and for longer by reducing drag and resisting fatigue cracks

  • increases component life and durability due to less wear

  • produces consistent and accurate close tolerance finished to 0.03Ra

  • increases gear and other component performance, producing a smoother gear change

  • produces a highly polished appearance

  • allows reduced running-in time

Super finishing is a specialist form of surface finishing ideal for motor car racing, motorcycle racing, rally sport, drag racing and other race car performance engine components.

Typical components to be super-finished include:

  • Super-finished differential components

  • Super-finished gear box components

  • Super-finished crankshafts

  • Super-finished camshafts

  • Super-finished primary drives
